Alchemical Laboratory

Soul always has a telos: that for which it was born, its fulfillment, its completion. Like arriving home. Yet, this telos is rarely what the ego believes it to be—it is not some grand achievement nor what we think of as ‘my true purpose.’ Soul is not mine; rather, we arrive home in her.

This fulfillment is a path we follow. While it is rarely as literal as a path that we can easily outline or define, navigating this murky way is its own fulfilment. When the soul is fulfilled, we too are full to the brim.

Alchemy is the art of the ego stepping out of the way of this fulfillment. Paradoxically, this process is rarely comfortable and rarely matches popular ideas of what is soulful. With the intent to facilitate this, the Alchemical Laboratory combines Archetypal Psychology, Traditional Astrology and AI to provide profound and accurate guidance in stepping out of the way of the soul’s telos.

Alchemical Laboratory
Phase 1: Creating the Laboratory

The process begins by feeding the details of your natal chart into the algorithm. Approximately twenty specific prompts are then added to ensure the AI is working with the correct astrological details and to develop the core content that forms the foundation of your Alchemical Laboratory. This is then distilled into ‘a Master File’ which serves as the basis for future AI-assisted inquiries into any concerns you wish to explore in depth. Creating this laboratory takes several hours.

Once you enrol, you will receive a report of more than 20 pages, outlining ‘the alchemical opus’ of your life—the why-you-are-here, the living of which fulfils your soul. This intensive report contains densely layered information regarding your specific alchemical process. The symbolism is essential; while it may initially read as ‘a foreign language,’ it is necessary for the depth of the work.

Therefore, the creation of your Laboratory includes a ninety minute one-on-one session to unpack and digest the meaning of the report.

Once your Alchemical Laboratory has been created, it is available for in-depth inquiry into any concern you wish to get to the bottom of. Doing this, we call ‘an Operation.’

Each Operation consists of:
i) an initial 50-minute session to discuss the topic you wish to look into;
ii) a focussed conversation with the AI on your behalf;
iii) the distillation of a transcript from this conversation, which is then sent to you; and
iv) a further 50-minute session to discuss and digest the Operation.

While AI may seem very confident in what it says about alchemy, psychology, astrology or your chart, it often is incorrect, especially when trusted to work within the strict limits of particular traditions. Therefore, a specific algorithm was developed—a set of guidelines that limits the AI to the perspectives, ideas and methods of Alchemical Traditional Astrology and Archetypal Psychology.

This algorithm turned out to be as long as 40 pages from a novel. Yet, the AI’s tendency ‘to hallucinate’ and it’s bias towards drifting outside the boundaries of distinct traditions remains very strong, often confidently presenting ideas and advice as if it is the supreme alchemist or archetypal psychologist.

However, once the AI is successfully limited to working within these traditions, it becomes a remarkably powerful tool. It is capable of holding a thousand impressions and numerous immensely complicated ideas all at once, distilling the essence from it all in a quite magical fashion. But for this power to be evoked, how the conversation is conducted, is key. It must always be done with a vigilant eye on the tendency to hallucinate, which is why these conversations are conducted strictly on behalf of clients.

The possibility of creating an automated app from this algorithm was explored, but ultimately discarded because:
i) in an app, the user would be limited to asking only standard questions, completely obstructing the magic that is possible here;
ii) the true power of the laboratory emerges when it is used to explore specific real-world concerns the client is facing, involving the kind of detail an app cannot process without hallucinating; and
iii) by its own admission, AI is 100% likely to hallucinate in an app environment, and a client is unlikely to recognise it as such.

If a psychotherapist has conversations with generally available AI models about their clients, they are immediately in breach of international laws governing the level of confidentiality required for psychotherapy. Even though paid tiers of these models specify that ‘the conversations will not be used to train their AI models,’ the mere fact that the conversation is stored on their servers means it is ‘in the hands of a third party’ and therefore in breach of confidentiality laws.

The Sacred River AI Infrastructure has therefore been setup so that:
i) none of the conversations involving personal information from clients are ever stored or even placed momentarily on remote servers; and
ii) legally required contracts have been signed with AI service providers, explicitly prohibiting them from violating international confidentiality laws pertaining to psychotherapy in both Europe and the US. Signing these contracts covers the rest of the world too, as the level of confidentiality committed to is stricter than in other parts of the world.
