‘A person practices Meditatio when they're having an inner conversation with an invisible other.’
– Marthinus Rulandus, from A Lexicon of Alchemy
Meditatio is a unique and revolutionary form of meditation combining meditative techniques with tools from western psychology, philosophy and alchemy. In short, it involves meditation as a powerful tool for transformative reflection.
More precisely, it cultivates deepening awareness and allows it to flow into reflection and inner dialogue in a manner that powerfully activates alchemical processes of transmuting who we are and our relationship to ‘what is’. As a regular practice, it facilitates profound shifts in our embodied intimacy with all of existence.
In other words, Meditatio is a departure from most meditation practiced elsewhere. It is rooted in the ancient practice of alchemical meditatio, a tradition rooted in western soil. Even though there are similarities to eastern forms of meditation, particularly to Tibetan Buddhist meditation, there are important differences.
Meditatio is being developed by Fritz Loest from twenty-five years of regular meditation practice and nearly twenty years working as an imaginal therapist. It is uniquely taught at Sacred River and is an indispensable part of our inner work, in which everything we learn elsewhere comes alive and is at play.
